RON PARRISH They are very easy to use. You inhale to make the noise with your lips pursed together. The wing bone is essentially a horn to amplify the sound. You can sort of tune them to the sound you prefer prior to the epoxy to hold them. I have one from a bearded hen that is smaller in diameter and I prefer it to bones from a tom or a jake.

bocephus I used to make the drippers out of pvc pipe back in the early 80’s but then went to the sweat hoses & a manifold or quick disconnect with a .5 GPH restrictor & you are right, they are life savers. We mulch heavily with Alfalfa & chicken house straw cleanings to & that helps tremendously with the Alfalfa, etc. getting worked back into the soil for a good thing later. The Alfalfa was always a little high, but it has now gone to ridiculously beyond high. Gardening has started to get expensive these days compared to the store, which has also gotten ridiculous, but we still enjoy what is ours.

It has been sealed in a large container that is vacuum sealed - one of those large Food Saver jar-like containers that doesn’t put pressure on the the contents the way a Food Saver vacuum-packed plastic bag would. There’s no contact with the contents of the container that would crush the casings - just an air tight vacuum environment.

processhead Wow Paul, I did not realize it would keep that long. We keep some in bottles & gallon demi johns for the next usage, rather than discarding. I have seen some cloud up a bit & was never exactly sure of the cause. After several months or so, I have typically either refurbished it a bit for a run or just made a new batch, especially if it was one of the cloudy ones.

Sydik Farms cut your jerky thicker, and across the grain.
I use a dehydrator from CABELA’s and make 3 whole large eye of round at a time 8 to 9 kg. Temperature starts at 145 to 160. Approximately 7.5 hours they crack when I bend them on the outside and flexible on the inside. I leave them in the dehydrator for 3 more hours with it off, and it balances the moisture throughout the jerky. I bag them shortly after with an oxygen absorber, they are ply able and chewy!image.jpg

One more vote for to much protein extraction. If you are looking for moisture retention I use carrot fiber works great.

Jonathon In addition, dry the cheese of your choice a bit to help with its heat temperance & then freeze it before adding to your mix, late in the mix. We use other natural cheeses using this method too, just make sure you are you a harder & more aged cheese as we have had better luck with those.

armyguy If you go through with the plan on this smoker, you may want to consider adding some instruments that will allow you to measure the actual RH in the cabinet.

After a few trial runs, you should be able to find the settings that give the RH you are after.

Depending on your ability, you could retrofit your smoker with a humidity controller like this one to control the existing humidity source. This would allow you to directly enter an RH% set point.
