Well I just finished Scars and Stripes it is an awesome book! I could hardly stop listening to it! Tim Kennedy truly has lead a life from rock bottom lows to the highest of highs, and done things most people will never experience. Highly recommend giving this book a read or listen. Bob Stehlik lkrfletcher The wife and I went on a 8 day road trip and spent most of that time in Colorado. What a beautiful state! We avoided the big cities as much as possible and just drove around in the mountains. It was very hot when we were out there, but cool mornings and on top of mountains were refreshing. Even had a little snow falling up on Wolf Creek Pass. We will defiantly be visiting again
years ago when wife # 3 and i 1st came to colorado,we were traveling up I-25 and stopped for a bite to eat just off the interstate , nice little diner fairly busy, we sat down and looked over the menu and i saw that they served chili burgers , i have always enjoyed a good chili burger so i ordered it , a few minutes later our food arrived and i don’t recall what went through my mind but i can assure you it wasn’t good , there on the plate sat a burger with some green slimy stuff all over it , to tell you the truth it looked like the dog had gotten sick on it , uh mister i said , this aint a chili burger !!! thats when he said it " your not from around here are you "… no i replied well try it , you will like it he said, then i said no sir not even on a $ 10.00 bet would i touch that thing. well he brought me a normal hamburger to replace it
but today when i thought about that day , i realized that the words " your not from around here are you " has been spoken to a lot folks , whats your story ?
the year was 1992 and i was passing by the casino and i saw a sign that said
barbucue ribs all you can eat $ 5.99
well thats all i needed to see i was sold !! i went into this fancy dining room sat down and ordered the ribs , while i was waiting for the ribs , i looked around and saw all these high society folks eating ribs with a knife and fork ( yea thats what i thought ) i eat a lot of things with a knife and fork, but ribs aint on that list !!! well in a minute or so they brought me my ribs and sides ( don’t ask me what the sides were cause all i saw was them ribs !!! )
they looked like they had been dunked in a 5 gallon bucketof BBQ sauce
i mean they were dripping with sauce. well folks i tore into those ribs like an F5 tornado , i was a chomping and slurping and awiping ( i never did even unwrap that knife and fork ) i tell ya folks i was happier that when grannie clampett 1st discovered moonshine , when i got finished with a bone is was so clean it looked like it had been through a $3.00 carwash
all them high society folks was a staring at me but i didn’t pay that any attention , they kept bringing me more ribs , my glass of coca cola had got so slippery from the BBQ sauce , i almost dropped it a couple of times
the fella next to me said " you look like your really enjoying those ribs " i said yes sir i sure nough am and kept on a chompin . after a while i had my fill and stopped eating, then i realized that the casino had made 3 mistakes (1 )they offered all you can eat BBQ ribs for $5.99 (2) they let me in the door (3) ( and this was their worst mistake ) they had snow white linen table cloths and napkins , that table cloth looked like something that should be hanging in a modern art museum , and i had BBQ sauce up to my elbows but fellas i tell ya i sure enjoyed them ribs
buy ya know something , i never did see that casino offer BBQ ribs again …i wonder why
the year was 1978 for those of you to young to remember this was the time of disco and the leisure suits it was mid summer on a Sunday around noon, wife #1 and i had been out and about that morning and decided to stop at Bonanza steak house for lunch , well as our luck would have it church had just let out and all the church folks had gotten there ahead of us
the place was packed !! we did manage to get an empty booth along a wall . our booth was right smack in the middle with 3-4 booths in front and 3-4 booths in back with more tables across a narrow isle on my right
so we sat down and ordered our food , i ordered a sirloin and i don’t recall what wife#1 ordered but we knew it was gonna be a while so we started talking what must have been some interesting gossip or something cause before i knew it, they brought our food , i barely glanced up i just kept on atalkin. i like a little A-1 on my steak so i grabbed the bottle and because it was so crowded i held the bottle about level with my right ear and started shaking it , so there i was a talkin and a shakin, when
wife # 1 got this strange look on her face and screamed STOP !!! …i froze not knowing what was going on , then i saw it… all the way down all the booths in front of me people in their Sunday best dress’s and suits covered with brown dots !!! i looked behind me and the same thing , a rainbow of pastel colored leisure suits covered with brown dots , same thing on my right side. slowly i realized that some prankster had left to top of the A-1 bottle loose and i was the sucker that fell for it !!!
at 1st i felt like craweling under the table and hiding, then i saw the faces of those fellas in all those now polka dot covered leisure suits so my 2nd though was to run , i looked across the room for the exit , but at that moment the exit door looked like it was 3 1/4 miles from where i was sitting , the poor lady in front of me was wearing a white summer dress and hat with a look on her face like please make it stop raining steak sauce !! the manager had seen what happened and came rushing to my rescue he was an old family friend and knew i would never in this world do anything like this , he told everyone to calm down that he knew me and it wasn’t my fault and that Bonanza would pay for all the dry cleaning and soon had everyone calmed down , we finished eating and left knowing that i was lucky to get outa there alive
i know we all come here to talk and learn about meat but sometimes you just need a good chuckle and if you folks are interested i have a few funny stories that happened over the years that might just give you a good chuckle . they are all true and most have at least a little bit to do with food
so let me know if you think folks would like to hear them otherwise, i’ll just stay quiet until i can add something worth while in other area’s of the f***m
Sarah and I go to my buddies family campout every year. This is their 38th year of doing it. Saturday night is the big meal, this year we expect around 60 people. I will post a couple pics of our kitchen setup. We even bring a kitchen sink with a hot water heater for easy cleanup. 4 of us do all the cooking (breakfast and dinner) it’s a great time
