Garry Tarpley we haven’t cooked any links yet, but we sampled the meat left in the stuffer and the single blowout. I would say the flavor is more like a breakfast sausage than what I would consider a brat.
Jerky time
-
Just put a batch of my Black Run Jerky into the dehydrator. First time using glycerol as a sugar substitute and the marinade smells awesome. I added a dusting of ground hot pepper blend (Jalapenos, scotch bonnets, and hungarian wax, carolina reapers) from last years garden, finally got around to grinding that up. See how they turn out!!! Boy that picture looks like c**p…funky LED and florescent lighting.

Parksider looks great! (aside from the hue! LOL) I love that dehydrator. It really upped my jerky game!

I used my buddy’s that has the back fan and had every intention of buying on of those but i was at Cabelas bargain cave in Buffalo and found this with a dent in the side. Of course I worked them over a bit more and I don’t think a paid much more than 100-125 something like that… good day! I don’t try to be cheap, I just like negotiating…

I think that’s called being frugal… -
Parksider How did it turn out with the glycerol? I’ve done a few batches with alternative sweeteners recently and been pretty happy with the Vegetable Glycerine but I havent tried glycerol yet… though it looks like they are very similar so maybe no difference?
-
Jonathon It’s glycerine, sorry…I really like the flavor, similar to a corn syrup. Dissolves easily. Just thinking about making another batch and breaking in the new PK 100!!!
-
Parksider I saw that on your instagram post! You are going to love it! Ive said it a few times but as far as smoke flavor and appearance goes I would put my PK-100 up against our Pro Smoker 500T any day! Things that come out of the PK almost always look and taste amazing. Can you tell I am excited you have one now?!
One tip would be to ditch the little water pan they give you and get something huge that can sit right on top of the drip tray, then you can add sponges or even rags to the larger water pan much easier than trying to use the small one they provide.
-
Jonathon Funny you mention that, I was thinking about having the fellas fab up a larger water pan and also how to add more racks for jerky! Clearly I have issues with status quo…

Parksider tinkering is a time-honored tradition!
