Ouch! No Like?!
What is the way that everyone uses to Calibrate thermometers? I am get 10-15 degree differences between all my thermometers and it is frustrating trying to read them all differently.
chippewa I generally just buy a new one. Lol. I agree that it is most frustrating.
Are you talking digital or dial?
chippewa
All I can say is you get what you pay for. It is frustrating. Did a test using three different types this past spring. Wide variations to say the least. If I find the pics will share.
Tex_77 actually both. Especially for the water bath. Leary about putting my maverick in water
chippewa a lot of dial thermometers will have an adjustment nut or something you can turn to move the dial/needle. Easiest way to calibrate in my opinion is ice water, adjust it until it reads 32.
Now I have no idea what you do on a digital one. I agree you get what you pay for.
Ice water is generally the easiest way to calibrate them and the method that most of them suggest. Some can be calibrated and some cannot, as everyone else said you get what you pay for sometimes.
In my opinion this is our best accuracy and ease of use to cost thermometer https://www.waltonsinc.com/5-digital-oval-thermometer It’s what I use at my house
Thanks for all of the replies. I am going to check them all with the Ice water and the boiling water and see where they are at. And attempt to adjust if possible. I will post my results.
chippewa be sure to adjust your temps for your altitude. Water boils at different temps at different altitudes.
What about barometric press. I’m thinking that has an effect too. Just be aware, a few degrees either way is ok as long as you’re consistent and love the final product. Cheers

Barometric pressure certainly has an effect, but it’s small compared to altitude.
I got a digital with 4 probes and it is really neat for smoking, I stick 3 in sausages for internal temp in different locations inside the smoker and just let the forth one dangle inside for smoker temp. It was only $22.00. It is kind of self calibrating as all the probes should read the same temp before you start.
akdave what brand and where did you purchase your four prob thermometer?
Wall Mart, Expert Grill 4-probe digital grill station thermometer
akdave sweet thanks I’ll check it out!
