OleSmokey Yes, all that is true, but there is nothing better than a hot fresh Blackberry cobbler with a scoop of homemade niller icecream on the top, um, um…

RON PARRISH Had lunch the other day with some friends and they had the Samuel Adams Octoberfest on draft at a local bar, so we had a few. It’s a good Octoberfest style beer but we were a little shocked when we got our bills for lunch and we saw they charged us $6 a pint glass. I guess that’s the going rate now.

Around here that would be considered the going price for a pint of craft beer.

processhead The regular Samuel Adams is produced in too large of quantities to still be considered a craft beer but I guess their Octoberfest still is considered a craft beer. Still probably a lot cheaper than any beer served at an Oktoberfest anywhere in the U.S.

OleSmokey Really not a bad price, I just paid $8 for a pint at a local saloon in Roslyn, WA, (Twin Peaks fame) it’s in the middle of nowhere and a local craft brewery, great beer though.

I was in Breckenridge, CO last week during October Fest and did some bourbon sampling at Breckenridge Distillery. It was a very good day.

OleSmokey Yes, $6-9 is the going price in many cities. The brewery owners have said their products to create have gone up as much as 40-50%. Thank the government for placing more money in money supply which directly affects inflation.

Yesterday we were at the Octoberfest in St. Charles, MO and we had three different Octoberfest beers. Samuel Adams, Hofbrau and Schlafly and we were surprised we liked the Octoberfest from Schlafly Brewing over the other two. Obviously all were good.

OleSmokey I was telling Andrew the other day, I sure do wish we had brewed up a batch of Oktoberfest, I don’t know what I was thinking or not thinking a few months ago. I know, it was the shandy & cucumber lime Gueuze to provide a little refreshing after working outside in the heat all day. On the other hand, I just simply cannot afford those sort of prices, period…
-
OleSmokey that is an excellent beer. Look for Marzen’s, they are the same thing just something about where it was made. That is why American Beers are Octoberfest and not Oktoberfest because they were not made in Munich

Departing Contestant FYI, Märzen or Märzenbier (which is German for March beer) is a pale lager seasonal that originated in Bavaria. The beer was traditionally brewed in March (hence its name) and stored in caves before summer’s weather made brewing lagers nearly impossible. The original Märzen was brewed dark, strong, and full-bodied, using roasted Vienna and/or caramelized Munich malt to help cover up the inevitable flavor changes that would occur throughout the summer. It was served at the first Oktoberfest.

OleSmokey the Marzens I get are dark sweet and very tasty. Thanks for the info

We’re spending 3 weeks “Up North” in Eagle River/St. Germain WI. I just couldn’t resist picking up these two Leinenkugles: Oktoberfest and Lienie’s Red Amber. Two very good seasonal beers. If you can find them in your area, I recommend trying them. At least the Oktoberfest, it has a very good Marzen/Lager taste and color with a touch of hops.
