Thermometer Recommendations
-
I am looking at replacing my failing two probe thermometer. Any recommendations either for or against? I am thinking of going with a four or six probe to monitor two smokers at a time.

Hands down the best one in my opinion is a Fireboard. It has 6 probe ports, it has Wifi and Bluetooth, and can also be paired with a fan for temp. control.

It also logs all your cooks in the cloud if you like to track all of that information.

Tex_77 Thanks. I have been knee deep in review and manufacturers want get a new one on the way before the next cook and this fully dies. Almost totally useless, becoming unreliable and untrustworthy.

I am told that the controllers on the new Yoder Pellet Grills/Smokers run on Fireboard technology as well.

YooperDog We have had good results with the meater plus but it is just a single probe though they can be purchased with more probes just not from us. I don’t have any experience with the Fireboard but a few people here have been using them and I haven’t seen anyone have anything other than positive reviews.

Recently started using this setup. I found the numbers in my smoker were not even close so using 6 probes lets me monitor several meats and several areas in the cooking chamber! Decent reviews and not a lot of money! My disclaimer: use of the app works well but their are no bells and whistles!

YooperDog I use the Grilleye Pro Plus. It is wifi and bluetooth ready. It has 8 ports, came with 2 probes. I had to buy the rest separately. I like this way better now that they came out with the cloud firmware allowing you to monitor it from anywhere on your phone as long as you have wifi connection at the head unit and cell service or wifi at your phone. It was kind of a pain to set up the first time. Also company based in the UK so customer service is kind of a pain due to time zone differences. But all in all it works well. I also have been eyeballing the fireboard.

Okay, I spent the good part of today researching, reviewing, comparing, etc… on thermometers. I am leaning way over to Fireboard. I like its versatilaty, capabilities and that it is an a American company. The price is a bit higher than I like, but that said, the reliability, customer service and construction are worth the extra bucks. I am going to sleep on it for a day and then proceed.

I have the Thermoworks Signals and like it very much. It’s wi-fi and Bluetooth ready and has a rechargeable battery. It monitors up to 4 probes (comes with 3 meat probes and 1 air probe with a grate clip, but you can hook up whatever you want if you have extra probes). Incredibly accurate. Two year warranty.
I don’t know if it’s better or worse than the others mentioned, but it’s one more to consider.

TexLaw thumbs up on Signal with Bellows blower. Use mine on the BGE.

In my experience with Bluetooth, I have never been able to keep a good connection when I was using an IGrill/Weber probe setup. The new ones might be better, but you just can’t go wrong with WiFi, and it adds so much more flexibility. skibumben I’m really like my Fireboard fan so far, no more constantly making tiny adjustments to the vents trying to keep it in the sweet spot.

Just so anyone in the market knows Fireboard has came out with a Fireboard 2.0 now, it looks to improve upon the great success they have had on their original model.
