Anyone Own a Yoder Smoker?
-
Been looking into getting a new smoker. Want a heavy wall, offset stick burner. The Big Box store one I have is about worn out after ~10 years. The fire box burner out and welded in a patch but…they are too think and don’t hold heat in Colorado’s winters.
I’m currently looking at the Yoder 20" Wichita and the 24" Kingman. A 30" would be nice for the volume to help stabilize temps more but I’d have to go back to work to afford that. NOT going to happen! LOL
Not into verticals, electrics or pellet poppers. To much good wood around here to use.

My dad has one! We’re in Colorado as well

Fat_Bob Don’t have one, but have seen them in person, they are heavy duty and will serve you well.

caitlincolorado Cool. Do you know what model he has? How does he like it?

Tex_77 Thanks Tex. I found a video of the plant and it’s impressive. CNC cutters everywhere. Some of the other manufacturers are hand cut and look it when you see them. My nearest dealer is 50 miles away and only stocks pellet poppers. 8-12 week wait will surely kill me. lol

Well you could always make a trip to Kansas.
-
Tex_77 Yeah I’ve spent plenty of time in Hutch. Sister use to live there. It’s an 8-12 week wait for them to build one. Dave said they were swamped right now. If they had one I’d wire the money and grab the flatbed. Guess I have to go to the bottom of the waiting list.

Fat_Bob Proud Souls up in Denver and also in Littleton is a Yoder dealer. You might give a call and see if they have the Wichita in stock. They use it as there cover pic for Yoder.

Fat_Bob there is probably a store in Wichita that may have one in stock.

The Shirley Fabrication 24"x36" smokers are well regarded by the BBQ-Brethren and myself. Just saw a really clean Klose sell for $925 close to where I live (Dallas area).
Personally, in the current economic climate, I would keep an eye out for a used smoker. My Evie Mae 24"x48" pipe-smoker was only $1100, lovingly and gently used by its previous owner. Come January when Christmas bills come due and people start thinking about April 15th, nice rarely used smokers seem to turn up pretty often, at least pre-COVID.

Fat_Bob he has the YS640.
It’s great, he can do 6 racks of ribs at a time. I think he has a little air flow issue so some spots are hotter than others, I’m fuzzy on the details but nothing a little rotation of meat doesn’t fix if it’s full. He has a fireboard thermometer so he can monitor inside easy. He’s happy with it. The freight could kill ya so he ended up with a floor model from the dealer in GJ when that guys stopped carrying them. Definitely make the trip to the Springs. -
glen That’s my local dealer. I’m in Pueblo and nobody in this hayseed town sells them.
sidpost I keep watching but nothing so far. Fingers crossed.
Bob Stehlik Good idea, I’ll see if anyone up there has one.
AG0D He seemed like a real nice guy and at $150 shipping he got my attention. Everyone else was around $450.
caitlincolorado Thanks for the info. I’ve heard the wind can cause the Wichita to back draft a little but not concerned about that. I built a three wall pit area (cinder block) 10 years ago and the open end faces the garage. Not hardly a draft in there.
Tex_77 I like the idea of going to Wichita to pick one up. Then I could go harass Walton’s! LOL

I have the YS640S on the comp cart. My shipping cost to Alaska was $800 bucks. You folks in the lower 48 get them good shipping rates!

I know Yoder is one of the top brands out there.

HerbcoFood saw a few at a stove shop in Charm, Ohio (Amish Country) this summer. They are impressive and built like a tank.

Tex_77 There is. Not sure on stock but All Things BBQ is owned by the same people as Yoder Smokers, if I’m remembering correctly.
