Smoker maintenance
-
Hello Ladies and Gents, just wanted to drop in and say I finally got my smoker all cleaned and resealed with caulk and ready to do my initial burn in phase which I will do on Friday. Then probably smoke something this weekend, not sure what yet. But really what this post is for is to show you what caulk I was given by ProSmoker themselves and is what they use to seal the PK100 and my smoker the ProSmoker 100SS. This caulk withstands up to 350* so if yours goes to a higher temp than that it may not be recommended. For example I believe their BBQ unit goes to 500*, don’t quote me on that. -

twilliams I know that you probably know this already, but for RTV caulk to adhere correctly, it has to be applied to a clean surface.
Should not be a problem since you just finished cleaning your smoker. Just the same, it might be worth your time to wipe down the seams with an alcohol soaked rag to get any grease that may have migrated from somewhere else.
There are also high temperature versions of RTV silicone.

processhead yep, as well as a small stainless steel wire brush around the caulk areas. I am concerned about the caulk at the area of the black door gasket. We will see how it holds up

twilliams I would be more likely to use an automotive high temp RTV sealant. They are designed for much higher temperatures as well as chemical cleaners and fairly forgiving when it comes having to be absolutely and perfectly clean for adherence. We used to brake clean everything before we used it.
