I am up in Minnesota, (west central) the haze from the Canadian forest fires is unbelievable, looks like thick fog and smells like everyone has a camp fire.

bocephus it was similar to that up in the UP. The current weather and winds have seemed to clear most of it out for time being.

Last week, due to the Canadian fires, we had a haze and smell clear down in SE Wisconsin. Everything smelled like burnt plastic though.

bocephus Been smoky here in Colorado for 6 weeks or so from the Western US fires. Starting to get annoying for people with asthma & bronchitis. We have had Air Quality alerts daily. Probably won’t end until the snow flies, like last year. Heading up to Northern Wisconsin Oct. 1st . Looking forward to some fresh air!

Same for western SD - https://fire.airnow.gov/

bocephus We were just up in your state, beautiful area you got there, shame it freezes into a hellscape and sometimes burns like the fires of hades! Have you ever spent anytime on Lake Minetonka? We took a cruise 1 night and the houses were ridiculous, some so big I just asked “why”, why would you want a house that big?!
-
@bmartin1000 Oh my god, I looked at that map, what exactly is going on in the northwest of this country?! I had heard about the fires and that they were bad but ummm…this needs to be a bigger deal!

Jonathon It is starting to happen more every year here. We have more fires. They are mainly started by human problems. This year is really bad with it being extremely dry. We have a burn ban across the entire state of Washington right now. We have not had any rain in almost 45 days. It’s a tinder box in the forest. Our six acres in the mountains abuts the National Forest, my son-in law is up there almost every weekend putting out the sprinklers around the out-buildings and cabin as we as my trailer to keep the area green and the fire danger down. In a normal year it’s dry, but somewhat green on the Western side here where we are, but the east side of the mountains is brown. Here is what the camp looks like in a normal year.

Bob Stehlik hope the Canada fires are out by then. Up here by superior we have air quality alerts every day also. Yesterday the smoke was so bad, many people including myself spent as much time indoors as possible. My eyes hurt and it felt like I swallowed a cotton ball. On the good side, it makes for great sun rises and sets. Just a big glow of orange.

Jonathon Can’t ice fish if it doesn’ t get cold. You and Austin need tobtry that experience sometime.
-
bocephus Yeah, the lake we fished on was apparently down 3 feet or something and they said that it was doing better than a lot of other lakes, with extreme drought going on. We are stealing all the rain in Kansas, normally we are in a drought but it has rained more this year than any of the summers I have been here.

bocephus It has changed a lot from when I started, sitting out in the weather on a five gallon bucket, back to the wind jigging. Now, flip over the shelter, turn on the heat, lights and electronics.

YooperDog Now they have icehouses that they use as travel trailers in the summer time, bedroom and bath. You are right though started out on a bucket and a little jig called a swedish pimple.

bocephus I have seen some of those rigs and the in-laws own one. Just not real keen about driving across the ice with that much weight. I have seen to many vehicles sink below. But they are sweet rigs.
