Minnesota colleges offering meat cutting programs in an attempt to offset labor shortages
-
The Minnesota Legislature and two Minnesota colleges are going to offer programs to train meat cutters. According to the article Why two Minnesota colleges are starting meat cutting programs?, there are only seven post-high school meat cutting programs at colleges in the United States.
“Endicott, dean of Central Lakes’ campuses in Staples, said the college plans to offer a one-semester certificate program beginning in the fall of 2022. Central Lakes is still in the process of writing its curriculum and getting necessary approvals, but Endicott said he hopes to attract about 10 students to the program in the first year and grow to 20 or more students in the years after.” said the article.
The programs are an effort to train students to be able to fill an employment gap in meat processing.
