Bulk meat bags
-
Is it just me or doesn’t it seem like bulk meat bags would be easier if they were slid onto a stuffing horn and linked like a giant sausage rather than cut individually. Maybe if they were made like the endless garbage bags or diaper genie. Or is this actually a bad idea.

Interesting thought. Makes sense, but. Now you have to seal both ends instead of one.
Which reminds me to add hog rings to the list.
Curious what others think. -
I wish there were bags to make the chubs of sausage, like how Jimmy Dean comes.

Ridley Acres Probably would work but I think you would be squeezing a lot of meat out and have to seal both ends.
-
PapaSop yeah my thought was to add double hog rings at the twist and cut between.

Ridley Acres That would work, you would just have to get the experience of how full to fill them for the twist.
-
Would a small amt of meat get caught between the twist and exposed to air or spoil?

Ridley Acres Maybe somebody makes them because Jimmy Dean and other sausage are closed with hog rings at both ends.

Ridley Acres where I had my beef processed they must of had a long tube of bulk packaging for burger. You can tell it was done in a long tube because each end is pinched off and hog ringed. The packages are 1.5 lbs. There is a little bit of exposed pinched meat on each end.
-
Yes. Even small/medium size processors will use these long tubes. Generally, a vacuum stuffer portions the meat into the long tubes and either the bags are clipped manually or automatically, depending on the equipment used. Essentially, the suffer feeds directly to the clipper machine which clips and cuts the tube.

Ridley Acres Looks like an on line search is going to be needed, maybe Jon or Austin already know where to access them.

This had me wondering about the Walton’s meat bag choices. Has anyone seen an option for purchasing less than commercial quantities? I don’t see any option for buying less than a 1000 bags.
-
processhead I saw that and wondered the same
-
I’ve wondered about buying less, but since they’re only $10 I figured I’ll just have a bunch, probably lose the last 2-300 and order more.
Ordering like 250 or 500 at a time would be nice, or hell, I could get by ordering 100. Not sure the cost savings would make it worth it though.

Ridley Acres There is actually a machine to do this. We have one hooked to our Vacuum stuffer. We can pack 50lbs a min with it!
There are a couple versions with some clipping every time you pull a lever (semi auto) or Clipping continually until it runs out of product or you tell it to stop. They are called Double clippers. -

processhead Go to packaging header and select meat bags and it shows quantities of 100 for about $10.

Ok, thanks for pointing me in the right direction. If you search in the casings dropdown menu, they only show the commercial bulk quantity meat bags.
