Excaliber’s recommendation was right on point. I used 1 oz of habanero powder to a half a bag of the Honey BBQ snack sticks mix. Turned out awesome. Had basically the same heat level at the Habanero BBQ and the Habanero Lime mixes.
Honey Crisp Apples lose their crown

Bought a bunch of apples this weekend that I thought were honey crisp apples but they turned out to be something I had never seen before called a Sugar-Bee apple…if you like honey crisps these are even better. Please excuse me, I need to eat this apple in silence and concentrate on how much I love it.

Jonathon Try the Cosmic Crisp, it much better than the Honey Crisp. It keeps longer. Being in apple country we get lots of different apples, never heard of a Sugar Bee, might be coming from South America. We got our first Cosmic Crisp apples off our tree this year. The seedlings were limited to Washington State residents for the first couple of years since they were developed by Washington State University and the Apple Growers Association.

The Sugar Bee is actually grown in Washington I have found out, it is a cross between the Honey Crisp and an unknown variety of apple and grown by multiple growers in the Okanogan Valley and sell it under the brand of Chelan Fresh. Many apples are being developed by crossing the Honey Crisp. They are trying to replace the Red Delicious since it is hard to keep even under refrigeration and inert air. They get mealy after a couple of months. We get the freshest of all apples since it’s only a couple hour drive to the orchards over the mountains.

I get nostalgic thinking about apples and remembering when my best friend and I would go get Braeburn apples to munch while we were joy riding the country side back in high school.

Jonathon Can you show us a photo of them? I have never heard of that variety, but it sounds interesting. I know when we were on assignment in Montana several years ago I found some really nice apples up there, some I had never seen before down this way. I keep thinking I saw some too when on assignment in New Jersey/New York, but I thought the ones in Montana were better.

Dr_Pain Most Honeycrisps crosses all share their larger size, of course we probably get the largest of them here since the growers are so close and those larger size apples are not considered usually grade A marketable since they send a lot to foreign markets like Japan as well.

GWG8541 They are really good, I got four apples off the tree this year. It’s still small and a survivor (my dog ate the top off it after I first planted it). These tree’s were hard to get at first with limits on who could get them and how many and pricey for the size. They are more disease resistant than some, but I still have to watch for apple maggot, so they have to be treated and the ground treated to prevent the fly larvae from hatching in the spring.

Jonathon Never heard of them but I do like Honeycrisps and Fujis, so if these are better, they must be fantastic. I will definitely keep my eye out for them.
