Just planted the beans today before the rain hits again tomorrow, also got most of the squash seeds in as well. Spinach and beets are in, so now all I have left are pumpkins and they go in the compost bin, but I have to get the chickweed out first with the eco-friendly weed killer since the bee’s are busy.
Kraut
-
Well I emptied 2 - 1/2 gallon jars and filled 6 quart jars,
then vacuumed them for the refrigerator.
That will last me for the year (unless I give half of it away again!!

Denny O thx for the follow up, your post is really making me consider trying this. I’ve had store bought kraut 4 times probably since your first post. I’m just leery since my 1st try at naturally fermented dill pickles, many years ago, did not turn out too well.

Dave in AZ I remember the first time I made kraut in a 5 gallon plastic bucket, I was pretty nervous trying that first bite. now 30 years later I use crocks with lips for a water seal and look forward to the first taste of a new batch.

Dave in AZ It took me quite a while to pull the trigger myself. But once I bought into the Mason Pickle Tops, it has been easy peasy.

TexLaw We made a big batch of Kale chips a few weeks ago that were better than I thought they would be. However, something tells me your style Kale would work better for that than the curly kale that we have been growing.

Dave in AZ Dave, I get 3 quartz out of a hard packed 1/2 gallon. You will need to mix up several quarts of brine @ a 2% pickling salt solution. To make it easy I set my little digital scale to grams and zero the jar on the scale. Then add 800 grams bottled water, then 16 grams of the salt. Screw on a flat and shake till it is clear and add to my filled quart jars.
