KARLHEIDOLPH I ran my 5D thru its first cycle yesterday to season and check the accuracy of the temperature probes. I was really pleased with the Smokin it app, it had all the features you could want and the 6 step program allows you to set it and forget it. My first load with be corned beef, Canadian bacon and reconstructed hams as soon as they finish curing.

Steven Winscot Interesting life Steve, I have a good friend who was from Butte who is your age. Butte isn’t that big, his last name is Lochrie, I went to vocational school with him in the early 80’s after he left Butte and joined the Army then got out.

Steven Winscot I’m totally with your thought process. I was on the last leg of the process to attend the naval academy in Annapolis and was denied after being advised that my lazy left eye was not correctable. My dad was in the navy during ww2. You, I and many others support the armed forces in our own way. Yay!

johnsbrewhouse Butte was booming when I was a kid then the Carter recession hit and it died, there’s been very little change in population over the years and new buisness growth is minimal. I miss the food, some of the kids whose parents ran eateries and meateries carried on the family buisness but they’re now retiring and selling or closing the business. I Graduated in 77, went to Greeley, Whittier and Longfellow, I remember lots of classmates but your friends name didn’t ring a bell.

Steven Winscot No problem, sometimes you run into people who know others. You are my age, Wally is the same age too. I haven’t seen him since he retired and got divorced. His dad worked in mining until he went to work for Montana Tech.

johnsbrewhouse It’s a small world, we are older now so faces aren’t so recognizable but hearing the names usually jog the memory.

Steven Winscot Faces have definitely changed, I see high school friends every five or so years at reunions and don’t recognize some that show up for the first time, but still recognize the name and knew where they lived.

mrobisr I’m pleased with the results, the smoker could definitely benefit from a convection fan so I plan to install an Auber Industries convection fan in the near future. This should solve my cold spot issues and make it function more like a commercial smoker.
