So it’s not just the squirrels chewing through the wires?
My Alaska trip.

ND Mike I wait with bated breath!

ND Mike Holy cow those pics are amazing! Killer whales are badass and smart enough to know not to eat people which I find fascinating. I don’t believe there are records of them attacking a human in the wild in the last 100 years? That glacier is amazing, I have GOT to get up there!
-
Jonathon yes you do! It will blow you away!!!
-
ND Mike Thanks for all the pictures, it is a beautiful place.

ND Mike I am anxiously awaiting the adventure shown tomorrow. My wife and I went on the glacier tour in 1990 and I found it very interesting. The sights up there are amazing! I can’t wait for 7/1 when I head back up there. Pretty sure the first evening my uncle and I will be deep in the adult beverages, since I haven’t seen him since Covid hit.

We fished off most of those glaciers in the summer when I was a kid. I lived in Anchorage from 1965 to 1969, right after the earthquake. Somewhere I have a picture of myself holding a salmon in front of the Seward sign at the docks.

johnsbrewhouse I could easily spend my summers up there!

So the last adventure we went on was a fly in across Cook Inlet to a place called Wolverine Creek. We drove to Nikiski where we hopped on a float plane operated by Alaska West Air. They would be the outfitters for this trip. It was a pretty cool flight over and back. I had never been on a small plane. We landed and got on a boat with our guide who everyone called Badger. We were treated to a shore lunch in an absolutely beautiful setting. We had fresh salmon prepared two different ways along with a green salad and some small Yukon gold potatoes. It was an amazing meal!!! After the meal we went to catch salmon which is actually snagging them while they are on their run. It was a really good fight if you snagged one in the tail. We were each allowed three fish. After we had our limit we went to see if we could see bears fishing for the salmon as well. We saw four different bears. A young single male, a set of twins, and a bigger boar that our guide thought was maybe 5-6 years old. At one point the young male was bobbing for salmon literally 12 feet max away from the bow of the boat! It was amazing.
One of the cooler things about this trip was watching my Coach who is now 77 reel in a nice salmon that fought like crazy. Coach had all he could do to bring it in. This experience was overall my favorite thing I did in Alaska. It encompassed everything that is Alaska!!!

Pictures continued
Here is Coach fighting his fish.
On the way out we flew over a glacier.
This fly-in is something I will do for sure. It was an extra $550.00 that I wasn’t planning on but worth every penny!!! -
ND Mike I can see why this is your fav experience. I was taken to a small river that had a confluence. First time ever I could actually think of walking on water(biblical) because the salmon were swimming on top of one another. I also saw 3-4 bears and they didn’t care about us. One bear just sat on a rock in the middle and snagged as many salmon as he/she could. I’m smiling with you. What an experience.

zbigjeff it is something that I will never forget!

ND Mike WOW! Best round of pics yet, the bears looked amazing and cool to see them fishing too. The one that has just the bears head out of water and he is looking at the camera, like “come on guy, I’m trying to fish too!” That glacier from the air is amazing looking!
-
ND Mike AND you should NOT forget it. It WAS a trip!!! Thanks for displaying it and bringing back some wonderful memories.
-
ND Mike What an amazing experience. I have a friend with a float plane, he lives in Alaska and one year flew it across Canada to Minnesota. He took me up flying, it is quite an experience taking off and landing on lakes.
-
zbigjeff your welcome!
-
bocephus it is surprising how soft the landing is, well at least the 2 times I have experienced it.
-
Jonathon it is a bucket list trip for sure.
-
zbigjeff Yes, that works great for a lot of seafood. We do it regularly. If it is real strong stuff, like shark, etc. add a little bit of yeller mustard & that makes it great. Makes some salmon more greater!

Awesome Mike, thanks for sharing. -
ND Mike That is all amazing & that one shot of the bear in the water is a million dollar keeper. I know you are energized now after being it that wonderful environment for a good bit. Glad you made it home safely & had a fantastic trip. Thank you for sharing your adventures with us.
