Okay, two of the things I found was that it is often used in meat processing when we want the salt flavor to be present but not the functionality of salt and its effects on solubilizing proteins. So think a Fresh Sausage seasoning that needs to be mixed for a longer than normal period of time, by adding salt in an encapsulated form you can mix it longer without protein extraction. The other one was that it is often used when meat is going to be seasoned and then frozen shortly after having the seasoning added. The salt will keep acting on the meat as it is being frozen, and as salt raises the boiling point of water, it also lowers the freezing point of water.

If your out in the country ticks will get you before chiggers in kansas

Jonathon Ya gotta keep some Campho Phenique handy to bathe in.
-
calldoctoday I had never heard of that stuff before today, I was hoping it was champagne and I was going to expense a bottle of it and get bit by something as an experiment!

calldoctoday to get rid of chiggers in a few minutes, grab a flat cotton pad and add a little bleach (full strength). Wipe your skin where the chiggers are with the bleach and let it dry and remain on for a few minutes. (take precautions with clothing/carpet, etc)… Shower off and a few minutes after showering that maddening itch will be gone. I’ve done this routine for years and it’s never failed. If you are allergic/sensitive to bleach then avoid.

Bigtwin Only time I ever got poison sumac I eventually gave up on conventional means and took a knife, scraped open my legs and poured bleach on them. Pretty bad pain for about 5 minutes but it ended almost 2 weeks of misery! Killed it dead and it never came back, the final decision was when it migrated north of my legs but south of my belt if you catch my drift. I DID NOT treat that area though!

Jonathon Ah Yay Yay, that is nasty sounding. I thinking Psng on them sounds better than that.

Bigtwin Ewwwww, I have never heard of that one before, other than Jonathon a few seconds ago. That sounds caustic. We used to just have to take a bath in Campho Phenique & it did the trick. Fortunately for the past 50 years or so, I have learned to avoid the critters & have nor purchased Campho Phenique in a long, long time.

It’s not caustic and very effective. I’ve used this to kill chiggers and their itch for years. You can thank me later.
