If you are the praying sort please offer up a little one for us. My wife and I are going along to the Lutheran National Youth Gathering in Houston. We were asked to help chaperone. There are six of us adults to 32 youths from our church. We have embarked on the 25 hour bus trip which we are doing straight through! I don’t know how this fat kid from ND is gonna do in that heat/humidity that Houston will be throwing at us with little to no sleep!!! This could be an interesting week!

ND Mike The 100+ heat index for hours will suck, but if you keep drinking water until you feel full you will survive. As and Army retiree I was sent a lot of places out of season and you can only do so much to prepare, but do the best you can with the tools available. A lot of places get this hot, but they do not get this hot for this many hours. Example is at 10pm we are still at 90-91f which a little further north they will already be in the high 70’s. As long as you are sweating you are good, but if anyone stops the sweating they are in trouble, so water, water, and more water and shade every chance you get.

ND Mike The worse transfer for me was from Ft Hood, TX to Maryland at the end of January. When I left Hood it was 68f when I arrived in Maryland it was a high of-3f I thought I was going to die, but I have seen the same situation reversed and on ruck marches they typically will fall/pass out due to the heat. Either way it is not ideal, but it is for your Church, so GOD bless your sacrifice.

ND Mike Good luck and I hope you make it home with your sanity.

Tex_77 hahaha…yep. We are staying downtown and not going anywhere but by bus or walking in the underground tunnels from the hotel to the event center. Except when we have to go to Minute Maid Park in the evening.

Little update…We are waiting in Brookings, SD for another bus to come from Fargo, ND. Our bus started overheating and we drove the last 45 minutes with no AC. Bus won’t get here until 2300. Off to a good start.

ND Mike If you have time go to a place called CobosQue it’s right across the highway from Minute Maid. It’s a very unique bbq place but it’s all good.
Yes you will melt while in Houston, we don’t get used to the heat and humidity, you just put up with it.
