calvin is that a regular slide guitar? I go to Nashville a lot so see them being played, but haven’t got up close to one. It looks like you have 10 strings?

you have a good eye but, no its not a regular slide guitar !! its a pedal steel guitar ,it does have 10 strings though , along with 3 foot pedals and 5 knee levers .
i started learning to play these when i was 35 , most of the classic country music has a guitar like this in it , all the country music from the 60s 70s and 80s had a pedal steel but from about 1990 they started making "modern " country music mostly without it
often on the old TV shows you will see a guy playing one of these , sometimes it will have 2 necks and of course 2 sets of 10 strings . the outside on those are whats called the "nashville " neck its tuned to E9th ( the one i play ) the other neck ( the one close to the player is tuned to C6th ) and is used to play things like western swing or jazz
i always stuck with a single neck E9th as i never cared much for the other tuning

for anyone that might be interested, pedal steels are fairly expensive for example a student model starts at around $ 1300.00 and the one i am playing in the picture is a tad over $ 4000.00

cdavis thx 🙂 started with guitar at 12 or so. After college, I learned bagpipe reeds had to be soaked in scotch before playing to moisten them up and bring them into tune, then you of course drank the shot of scotch… I figured that was a good instrument to learn, and a good excuse to drink scotch! 😉 When the USAF said they’d give me 2 extra weeks leave (permissive TDY) a year to do bagpipe school if I played at funerals and Dining In/Out formal balls, I got serious 😉
