Didn’t realize I needed this thing but let me tell you it’s pretty cool. If you’ve been thinking about getting one just do it.

beekeeper84 How hard is it to program it to reproduce a copy of another small part like a knob or other simple shape? Do you need some sort of scanner to do that?
Also, what kinds of printing materials can you choose from?

processhead scanner would probably work but there costly maybe easiest to take dimensions with a caliper and put them into a program called a “slicer”. It’s similar to cad software there’s some free ones out there. I use cura but any of them can do it but you’re manually programming the build, from that point your taking the gcode file it generates and plugging into the printer.

Also I wouldn’t say it’s hard just takes some fiddling with.

I have one and they are loads of fun. From making silly toys for the kids to replacement parts for truck, cars, camper, to making accessories for firearms and hunting equipment, I always have something ready to print out. I started with ABS then switched to PLA. Much less shrink and deformation with PLA for me.

Most “useful” things I’ve printed were braces for my hub blinds, scope extension for magnification, scope shade, camper door holders, and a shifter column for my truck. Everything has held up really well. Once I got my top, bottom, and shells figured out everything has been really strong and durable.
