After researching all the labor day meat sales, I saw Sam’s club had Choice brisket for $3.68 a lb. I called up, sat on hold 10 min, then asked a guy to check to make sure they had some as I wanted several. Yes, they had plenty, so I drove up.
When I got there, all they had were Prime brisket for $4.21, still a great deal. I found meat dept guy, asked him where the Choice were…none in stock! Turned out it was the guy I talked on phone to, he said he hadn’t looked close. Then he immediately said he would mark some prime down for me for the trouble. He priced it 25% off! I ended up getting two for $3.21 per pound.
So now I’ve finally got my “Once in a lifetime Good Meat Deal”
I ended up buying $340 of various meat and spices. Pork butts, bellies, loins, tenderloin. Chicken.
Took me a while to cut it all up and vacuum seal in usable sizes, cut each brisket in 3 pieces and separated most of fat. By the time I was all done, labeled, and cleaned up, I didn’t feel like grinding and sausage makingwell, the cleanup anyways. So I just grilled some pork butt steak and chicken.

SaWeet! Wish I could turn a deal like that @ my Sams. I’m only 3 to 4 miles away.

Dave in AZ That sounds good. Best I could get now was $3.28 plus 10% at the Piggly Wiggly for choice. It was not too bad a piece of meat. Trimmed the fat for beef sausages later & smoking that son of a gun now as we speak.

That is a great price around here the best I have seen is 4.99
-
Dave in AZ Great deal…I haven’t even seen prime around here. Terrific price for prime!
-
That is a decent price in these times.

I read beef was coming down due to drought, but thats very good. Good idea stocking up. Grain prices are going up and its all going to get worse before it gets better.

Yesterday I noticed Prime jumped to $4.41/lb here, it must have jumped in the last couple of weeks. It was holding at $3.99/lb for a pretty long time.

processhead paul, I get 50 lbs of deer hime easy all the time.
- You can take 1 or 2 checked bags of 51 lbs or less for free at most airlines.
- If frozen, just toss meat in cooler as is, drop off as your checked luggage. It will be frozen solid upon arrival still.
–I use that standard size rolling beverage cooler with a handle and wheels, holds about 55 lbs of meat full. - If not frozen, you can take 2.3kg of dry ice on plane with no paperwork as a checked bag, you just need to declare it upon check in. I usually keep the dry ice bill of sale and put inside cooler. They look at it, thats it.
- You can carry as much dry ice as desired with no declaration at all, so long as it is NOT CHECKED, but your carry on roll aboard. Sometimes if I don’t have much deer to carry, like 40 lb, I line my rollaboard with 1" styrofoam, load it with frozen meat. It lasts fine without drybice, but you MAY add co2 if desired.
You’re probably joking, but thought I’d post some hard won deer meat transport info. I’ve looked up every reg, printed them all out and carry a packet with me in case any trouble checking in, but have never had any issues.
…I do have a pile of 6 rolling coolers collecting up at my house though!

Dave in AZ Outstanding find.

processhead Those are great prices, I haven’t seen 1.19 for pork butt in a while. For a while, I saw a price drop in boned-out butts but that disappeared. The loins though have remained fairly low in Wichita for some reason.

I have been thinking about it but by the time you pay for another checked baggage item and the cooler, I think I pretty much erase any savings.

processhead You are way out there. Wanted to take Margaret up that way a few years ago for some IR training & then a road trip to Nova Scotia & back to Portsmouth by the ferry. Something got in the way, I cannot recall what it was, probably Corona Business. Enjoy your trip & wishing you a safe return!

calldoctoday It was a good trip. Heading back this morning.
A lot of beautiful scenery here to take in. Acadia National Forest is a nice place to spend time. The rugged coastal area are equally beautiful.

processhead I was there 2 years ago what a gorgeous place to visit
