The day before Veterans day is the Marine Corps Birthday. We need this holiday to recover from the festivities on 10 November every year. So to my Marines in our community, Semper Fidelis and Happy 247th. To all my Veterans, thank you for your sacrifice and service to this great country.

Bob Stehlik I took the cake into work and rounded up as many Devildogs as I could. It took some searching to find a Mamaluke sword, but I found one to cut it with properly. Time to pick some bourbon. They frowned on me bringing whiskey to work. Go figure

It’s harder than it looks to cut cake with a sword.

GWG8541 Happy Birthday! Nice cake and cake cutting sword! I never heard that a Marine’s sword was called a Mameluke sword. Learn something new everyday.

OleSmokey the sword was presented to Marine First Lieutenant Presley O’Bannon by the Ottoman Empire viceroy, Prince Hamet, on December 8, 1805, during the First Barbary War, in Libya, as a gesture of respect and praise for the Marines’ actions at the Battle of Derna. “To the shores of Tripoli”. Now all Marine Officer’s wear it as part of their uniform. To clarify, I was not an Officer, I was enlisted and a NCO, so we had an NCO sword. Today they are both for ceremonial uniform wear. Officially the Mamaluke is used for the Birthday cake cutting, but in a pinch I have even used a good old K-Bar fighting knife.

GWG8541 Can’t imagine why they would frown upon liquor at work. Were they scared of the sword? lol. Semper Fidelis brother and wishing everyone a "happy veterans day ". We are lucky to have two sales events each year, the one that that haunts me is Memorial Day, the day I am forced to remember all of my troops that didnt make it home. I honor them, the true heroes and I will never forget there names. Raise a tall glass, and salute this weekend to all that had served. Always Faithful.

scottfletcher that is why our motto is simply those two words and you exemplify that by remembering them. Always Faithful. They will never be forgotten.
