Food Grade silicon spray

djman69465 I’ve always understand the silicone spray to be for storing equipment rather then lubricating it during use. Go with your gut and use the mineral oil on parts that will have direct contact with your food. I have used the silicone spray to prevent rust when storing my equipment, but I wash it before using. I also store my grinder knives and plates in mineral oil.

Deepwoodsbutcher I use zip lock bags and white oil to store mine, keeping them mated up in bags.

Deepwoodsbutcher I have been looking for something better but haven’t found anything that is the right size and seals good

bocephus I found an inexpensive small clear plastic tub with a lid at the big orange box store that is strong enough to store the grinding head/parts/blades/plates. I think it will outlast any bag and it doesn’t matter about dripping oil inside the box.

jdranchman I store my grinder in it’s original box, though I have wrapped the box with fiberglass tape to help it hold up. I am looking for something to just keep the single plate with the matching knife. I keep the grinder box, a 5lb stuffer and other equipment in a Dewalt tub that has a handle and wheels to move around. Keeps mice and other critters out of my processing equipment

jdranchman After washing and drying, the grinder parts get a coating of white oil. Then I reassemble it and put it back on the motor drive unit. Lastly, it gets bagged to keep it clean and ready for the next grind.
Spare plates and knives stay paired and after oiling are stored in zip-lock bags. -
I like doing that and covering with a large plastic bag that a king size bedspread came in. Really strong plastic and can zipper shut

samspade That sounds like a very good use of that type of bag, thanks for the tip.

processhead That is why you will have that grinder and your then your kids and their kids. That is how to properly take care of a serious tool.
