Jonathon The key is that the morphing is appropriate and letting the process guide you to the “adjust, compensate and overcome” mode. Keep adjusting when appropriate. Good luck you two.

Jonathon The same for all of us. That’s why I carry a big ole can of bear spray. Insert all the bear spray jokes you want here, but there’s at least a chance that spray might have some impact on a griz. Shooting a thumb sized projectile at a brain the size of a softball that is coming at 40 mph and bouncing up and down a foot or two at a time??? And when all I can see is teeth and claws??? I’ll never hit that brain without Immaculate Assistance.

Kurt Ratzlaff Everyone else knows this because I won’t shut up about it but I bought a new gun and am having trouble hitting the center of a still target about the size of a baseball at 7 yards, so hitting a grizzly in the brain as it rushes me is a LONG shot. Also, you’d have to factor in the “I want to pet it” portion of my brain that is stupid.

Kurt Ratzlaff I finally had a chance to listen to this podcast. Thanks for all of the info, it was awesome.
Jonathon I noticed that Ohio BHA has a sausage making class coming up in Columbus, Ohio. Walton’s is a sponsor on the advertisement, but I did not see anything about who will be instructing the class. I was wondering if it was anyone from Walton’s?

There are some great door prizes provided by Walton’s. -
Jonathon That is indeed a lot of adrenaline.

Kurt Ratzlaff well here’s my new pad
-
Tex_77 That pads pretty impressive! I checked out the specs https://www.bigagnes.com/collections/car-camping-sleeping-pads/products/boundary-deluxe-insulated and came away with thoughts I may need to upgrade! Darn it! It’s amazing how when the sleeping pad industry went to a standard measuring system, there was an almost instant increase in quality! Amazing how that works! Great choice and I can’t wait to hear your thoughts after sleeping on it in the field. Well done!

Kurt Ratzlaff I really like the width, I don’t know how people can sleep on the 20" mats, 25" is doable, but it wasn’t that much more for the 30". Hopefully I can get it out in the field soon.

Tex_77 I have 20s and 25s and there is a definite difference. When I am in ‘ounce weenie’ mode, I take the 20. I usually regret it. The weight and pack size difference is minimal unless you are making an effort to really be light. The fact that a 30 is even in this conversation is amazing.

Kurt Ratzlaff I was all set to get the Big Agnes RapideSL 25", then I saw this on their site, and decided 30" was the way to go. I suppose if I started backpacking alot and weight would become a concern, I might get a 25" pad. For less than a pound more in weight I think I’ll enjoy the extra comfort. Now I just need to figure out what pillow I want to get.

Tex_77 Watch out! I am so mad at most backpacking pillow makers, I could scream! But pillows are necessary to get a good night’s sleep. First, I slept for years on scrunched up tshirts filled with other clothes. Years of that. Even developed a system for that. But it was always a pain. Then I started making my way through the other options. A ziplock bag with air. Terrible. A ziplock with a bunch of other partially filled ziplocks. Barely better. Then I spent actual money on pillows. On most of them, as soon as I found one I loved, it would leak and be flat in an hour. So frustrating. And what they charge is ridiculous. So I have a checkered past with backpacking pillows. My current one, which takes up more room and weighs a few ounces more than I want, is the NEMO Fillo https://www.nemoequipment.com/collections/pillows/products/fillo. But it doesn’t go flat! The one I have is actually an older version. I bought it, deemed it too heavy and it got put in a box. Then several years later I ran across it and tried it again. That was two or three years ago. Its now worked its way into every trip I take. But what if I could find one of those 2 ounce pillows that would hold up…
