Help! I'm trapped in a Vegan Prison!
-
So I lost a bet to Jonathon and now I have to go Vegan for a whole week.
Today (2/22) around 4pm at the end of recording our podcast this week, my Vegan experience started…
You should listen to the podcast we release on Friday. It has a good bit about the start of my Vegan experience, plus a lot of other great stuff this week.
I will try to document most of my meals here on this thread through the next week. See if there is anything good, and I’m sure there will be bad… I tried my best to pick out stuff I thought would be decent but I stuck to things specifically labeled Vegan.
Now it’s time to start. Feel free to make fun of me or this whole deal, or if I’m lucky, offer your support as I try to survive the next week and dream of eating a juicy ribeye, hopefully, at next week’s podcast to celebrate my return to being a carnivore!!!

Did it occur to you Jon may have cheated? Perhaps he had on heavy boots on the first weigh in and flip flops on the last weigh in? Maybe he was fully strapped with multiple concealed firearms for the initial weigh in but was weaponless at the last weigh in?

Austin Good luck, I believe it is going to be a long week.
-
Tex_77 I don’t think he cheated. Unfortunately, it was a fair bet…

Austin good luck and just remember your his boss, you could make the rest of his working career miserable.

bocephus haha, yes, I actually didn’t have time to stop for lunch today and that was going to be my last meal. But I was out already. Dissappointing.
-
kyle I give Jon plenty of c**p, so when I lose, I deserve what comes my way
It’s a 2 way street so I’ll take my turn -

Austin if you don’t have an allergy eat lots of peanuts. They are filling and have some protein

Austin These are the grim consequences to a high stakes bet. What were you thinking?
On the bright side, it might be an opportunity to shed a few extra pounds.
-
Austin Good luck, I am interested to see if you actually hate it as much as I think I would have!
-
Jon went home and cracked open the bourbon, hope he made it to work. lol

Austin After you complete this challenge, I’m sure you will, are you then going to create a Group; “Vegan Survivor”? It’ll more than likely only be a Group of 1!

I am sure after a few days you’ll settle in, then I am sure you’re also finding out that vegans have to really go out of their way to support their way of life. Have fun Austin !

tarp actually the last 2 nights were the first two nights I have not had some sort of drink in the last few weeks. Mostly just 1 beer a night on work nights but I was wondering why I was struggling to get up and workout in the morning and once I stopped that it became much easier!
-
So here was dinner last night…
A plant based beef burrito bowl.
The texture was off and the consistency was weird, but the flavor was not horrible. It was pretty heavily seasoned, although salt didn’t taste high. I think they were high on spices, but mid-low to mid on salt content.
It didn’t taste bad, but it took a bit to eat just because the mouth feel was kind of strange.
I also added extra vegan cheese to this, and while the cheese was not bad, it was very strange. It wasn’t enjoyable to eat. It was kind of grainy when eaten plain. In the burrito bowl it was better, and better than nothing, but the lack of real cheese for a week is going to really hurt.
Had a protein drink for dessert later in the evening.
This was surprising. I forgot I had got this type of protein drink. I thought it was going to be pea protein powder based, but this was soy protein isolate based, which is 1,000 times better than pea protein. To me it was pretty similar to any other protein drink. My wife tried it and she was very displeased with the after taste, but I did not mind it at all. I’m weird though and when most people dislike the texture, after taste, or whatever else about a standard protein drink, I strangely don’t mind it.
I have one of these for every day, so I feel good now about having something fairly good tasting to at least look forward to every day.
Capped off the night with a handful of trail mix. I have several bags of this, so on days I need more calories, a snack, or my main course just sucks, I’ll be eating lots of trail mix…
