Layers are getting old so it’s time for new chicks.! 5 Buff Orpingtons and 5 Araucanas (2 types) one day old.
FEB 16th
MARCH 12th 3 weeks.
Should be laying by mid June. -
Steven Winscot I found out Thursday it was that time of year. Stopped in the post office and heard birds. Asked them if they had birds stuck inside. Told me they were peeps being shipped to a store. Never thought about them going by post office. Figured they came by truck

WVTim Murdochs started getting them Feb 8th, there was a line and I didn’t get any that day. I went back for their Feb 16th shipment with a chair and a book at 7:30am and waited in line until they started selling them at 10:30am and got 10 birds. People were backed up behind me all the way to the entrance waiting. It was a madhouse.

Steven Winscot wow that’s crazy. Normally when I go in to one of our local stores this time of year there are tons of them. Must not be as much demand around here
-
Steven Winscot I think the only stores that carry them around here now are tractor supply and rural king.

I wonder if the poultry virus has got the supply chain for chicks all jacked up?

Steven Winscot they are looking healthy. Sometimes I miss raising chickens.

WVTim I think it’s the egg prices that are responsible for all the chicken madness.

WVTim After missing out on the first batch I tried ordering online and June was the earliest they would ship So I think stores have priority now. If I waited until June I wouldn’t have eggs until the first of October so I’m glad I got mine now I’ll have eggs in June.

Deepwoodsbutcher I enjoy it and the family likes the free eggs.

Steven Winscot I’ve never been big on eggs, so when I was younger selling them was a good supplementary income for me. I had a flock of 26 hens and a small client list. I would load the eggs up in my old jeep and deliver the eggs for just $2/doz. Hard to believe I made any money at all at those prices, but it was something I enjoyed.

Steven Winscot You seem to be quite the stud muffin to be attracting so many chicks!

Yes, bird flu caused a large cull. Which then meant hatcheries are holding back to replace the breeding stock. Convince that with ppl starting to raise birds for their own eggs to dodge store egg prices there is very high demand this year and lots of hatcheries are low/no availability for turkeys also… There’s some Thanksgiving foreshadowing for you there. You might expect poultry meat to 2x this fall.

You can also buy honeybees via USPS.

Steven Winscot I need to do the same. Where did you get someone to give you that watermelon box?
