Least favorite about making jerky

Jonathon Cleaning racks by hand is definitely not fun. If you own a power washer, move the project out to the driveway. If you don’t own a power washer, load them up and take them to the nearest car wash

Jonathon How are you removing the overspray from the inside of the smoker? Unless I was planning to clean the smoker too, I think I would spray the racks with cleaner after I pulled the racks out.

Jonathon I spray them with non-stick cooking spray before hand and soak then in a tub of soapy water for a while afterwards and that helps a lot with clean up. I put them in same tub when I spray them before hand.

Jonathon I clean my racks the same way I do the dishes, I let the dog lick them off! She does a REAL good job! Teaching her how to do the meat lugs now.

salmonmaster Reminds me of a joke my dad told me about a man with dirty dishes, when his nephew came to visit, and he said that was as good as cold water could get them. When the nephew was leaving the dog ran out the door and the man yelled Cold Water get back here.

I always clean my racks before I start a new batch. That is because “last batch” me is a lazy SOB that doesn’t clean up when done.

So, I run it at high humidity for 5 minutes to try to rehydrate some of it, then I spray it with the Smoke House Cleaner and then I use the power washer. Hate it. salmonmaster Lol, you have a great partner there!

The racks I use fit in my dishwasher. Pull them out after the wash and then hit them lightly with a scotch brite pad - voila!

Now that’s priceless lol. I have to say it looks as though she’s getting it pretty clean. Good dog.
