Meat processing experience : tbh novice although I’ve been processing my own meat for 10 years.

Smokers: recteq pellet smoker when I’m lazing, big cinderblock smoker (4x x 10’) which also doubles as a huge grill

Favorite meat snack: anything with venison, pork and beef

The first thing I noticed about this buck was he only had one eye. I figured he lost it in a buck fight. As I skinned his head for mounting I found out differently. 20211205_070412.jpg I saw this just sticking through the bone so I got my plyers and started pulling. 20211205_070630.jpg That is what’s left of a broadhead and arrow shaft that went right through the eye socket perfectly. I also noticed something in his neck. 20211205_070840.jpg you can see the infected dished out spot in his neck where I found a bullet just under the skin. 20211205_070708.jpg Neither of these shots brought this animal down. It was a lung shot that brought him to me. I don’t know whether this buck was lucky to survive being shot twice. Or unlucky for being shot at least 3 times. One thing you have to say is they are a very very tough animals. 💪

In all seriousness, farmers have so much to worry about regarding their herd, it will makes most people’s head spin. For cattle and or sheep you have everything from worms (multiple types, often in the soil or water) to flies, restless, natural predators, weather, unfortunate accidents by their own kind… the United States produces more beef, chicken, pork, lamb than it can eat and most of it is exported.

I added batteries to the vacuum sealer handle, and hot dang, that is a game changer to have the buttons on the handle. I would absolutely recommend this sealer to anyone. 4 thumbs up.20230209_193059.jpg

    • Waltons 50lb meat mixer

I must have had too many adult beverages, or 1 roo many nightcappers as I ordered (and received) the waltons 50 lb meat mixer.

While it will be very useful for large batches of meat, its substantially larger than I had anticipated. I’ll post some pics later today. 🤪

Woah, a stick smoker has really Wide temp swings, so don’t get caught up in the hype. Yes, we like to control as much as possible, but when you take a step back, it all ends up the same. Yes, you can improve upon any smoker, dehydrator, oven, but those are personal preferences and not commercial preferences.

This sounds like imanazz, but use what you have and you’ll he fine

    • RE: Review of Walton's 12" Pro Vac Sealer: Excellent

Yes, I’m aware that they recommend a 20?seconds cooling time before sealing. I would seal and set the bag down and feel the sealing bar, and it was already cool to the touch, so I kept on trucking.

I adjusted me last comments, I was just wondering if anyone has had a seal bar fail. I’ve had pumps fail

    • RE: Review of Walton's 12" Pro Vac Sealer: Excellent

Yeah, I gave the sealing bar a good test last night, as I had everything bagged and went to vacuum/sealing one after another (perhaps 5-10 seconds between). I did check the sealing bar, and it was cool to the touch after the short rest period.

Has anyone experienced a sealing bar failure on a food saver? Mine didn’t fail, just wondering if it’s happened to anyone

Its also cool to hear the limbs pop when the temp drops drastically (happens in the north often). Say, it will go from 30 degrees to negative 15 overnight, and the sap and moisture in the tree freeze so quickly, that it will often sound like a gunshot.

I believe untangling some of the red tape is that Texas is an independent electrical grid operator, so it will take some time to undo.
