My 13 year old son started shooting sports through 4H about 8 months ago. He qualified for the state shoot In the junior division in trap and sporting clays. He shot on a 4 man team . They took 1st place in sporting clays and 2nd place in trap. The big stage didn’t seem to bother Cooper. He shot his best round of trap ever with a 24 of 25. It was only his 2nd time ever to shoot sporting clays and he shot a 41 of 50. So to say the least I was a pretty proud dad. His coach was about as happy as I was. He was amazed at how well he shot with such a huge crowd around. Now we have to see if we get to shoot in nationals.

RE: What are you hunting/fishing?
My son Cooper scored on another buck. He’s a happy camper except for the fact that he’s now tagged out. But he wound up with 2 really nice bucks.

I cured and smoked another ham and some ham hocks. This ham was rubbed with maple syrup then coated with maple sugar before it hit the smoker. Smoked to 148 IT. The sweetness and moisture of this ham was great. I have my last ham in the brine now. I think I’ll do it the exact same way.
You can see I kept a piece out for snacking. -
RE: What are you hunting/fishing?
Gotta brag on my 12 year old son. Got his first bowkill ever this morning. He did it by himself cause I was hunting another property. He’s been hunting this buck since October 1st. He passed on alot of smaller bucks waiting for this guy and it paid off. I’m so proud of him to finally show that patience. He did shoot him a little too far back but he only went about 100 yards. I really enjoyed teaching him and my daughter how to follow a blood trail. It was a great day.

RE: Gardening, canning, pickling and everything related
Had my first fresh corn
from the garden. It was really good but about a week or 10 days from being fully mature. Getting lots of cucumbers and 5 or 6 tomatoes
a day now. Man it’s great to be eating out of the garden again.

My pork loin is ready for the smoker today. First try for Canadian bacon. I trimmed half and left the fat on the other half. I’ll see what the family likes best. Smoking to IT of 145 to 150.
Wish me luck. -

RE: What did everyone cook today?
I got to hit the grill the last couple of days. It sure was hot but well worth it. One night it was porkchops 🥩 and zucchini. Then it was drumsticks and veggies. Yum

RE: What are you hunting/fishing?
Had a friendly family tournament with just me and the kids. I caught the most but missed out on the big bass prize. So me and Cooper had to clean the fish.

Hey I tried a new way to hang my onions
. Actually my wife told me about it. I’ve had them hanging for a couple of weeks now and I think this is going to work better than anything else I’ve tried. They get plenty of air and are not touching each other. So if you want to try this have your wife save her old pantyhose.

RON PARRISH
I hunted this buck the whole muzzle loader season. I passed on numerous smaller bucks hoping this buck would show up in the daylight.
Nothing like waiting till the last 15 minutes of the last day. But it paid off.
Got my skinning crew all hooked up. It just amazed me how good my kids have gotten at this. They are now 11 and 12 years old. They’ve been doing this since they were 5.
back straps and tender loins are coming out.
2hrs and 20min. from the time of the shot til the meat is on ice to bleed out for 3 or 4 days.
